The homie Chris Clouse turned me on to this one...
Super bootleg of HOV's "Pray" and Focus' "Hocus Pocus" by Trafik. You're listening to this track saying "Ok, this is dope" then you get to minute 1:26 and you realize why I had to post this.
About 2 years ago, DJ Benzi and The Knocks released American G-Funk - a complete rework of HOV's American Gangster album. They dug deep in their crates and found some awesome soul, R&B, and pop samples. Below are my 2 favorite cuts. If you don't already have it, you'll definitely want to add this mixtape to your collection.
If you're a big enough MC that you get to add a verse to an already very dope track by Drake and Jay-Z, oh yeah, and you record the verse over the phone while sitting in jail on Rikers Island, then you should start calling yourself Lil Wayne. This is both impressive and eerie, but definitely worth checking out.
When M.I.A. released her latest single "XXXO" I was happy to see that she was making club beats again. The original reminded me of one of my favorites of hers to spin - "10 Dollar". Then Fulton Yard producer Rieces Pieces added more club flavor to "XXXO" and, oh yeah, HOV himself jumped onboard. Certified.
So, how do you feel about the whole dubstep movement?
Let's be honest. In your average nightclub, your average dubstep track would probably freak out most of the "play me my Britney / Lady GaGa / Black Eyed Peas now!" clubgoers on the dance floor.
But let's expand our minds. For me dubstep can be absolutely RAW. The basslines drop the floor right out of the club. And come ON all you disc jockeys. You know you can find a track other than Hov's "Big Pimpin" to half time your dance party mix.
Check AM getting all dub-style at the WMC in Miami this year:
Whether or not you feel it, appreciate the art that is dubstep.
This dropped back in 2000 on the Nutty Professor II soundtrack of all places. But it's damn hot, and definitely one to add to the collection. Timbaland on the production. Thanks to Breezy for the head's up.
Whenever a new Hov joint hits the net, the entire blogosphere goes crazy. No exception with this one. Hopefully we'll see this on the much anticipated Blueprint 3.
If you are a fan of hip hop, you need this in your life. Thank you Mike Nice. Brooklyn Bullsh*t is chock full of crazy rare, unreleased and demo joints from the likes of Jay-Z, Big Daddy Kane & the Notorious B.I.G. Look out for Biggie rhyming at the age of 12, Hov at the age of 17 and more! What??!!
