I haven't posted much hip hop lately, because frankly I haven't been impressed with a lot of it. Leave it to my man Common though to always produce top grade stuff. His latest single "Blue Sky" off the upcoming album The Dreamer / The Believer is exactly that.
And if you haven't heard Common's other recent single "Ghetto Dreams" you'll definitely want to check that now.
This has to be one of the party videos of the year, courtesy of Oakland's Wallpaper. - "gifted producer, multi-instrumentalist songwriter, viral media hustler and disco ball-busting crowd destroyer." (Giant Step)
Seemingly taking inspiration from the massive dance record of the same name by Alex Gaudino, here's a proper DJ intro edit I made of the new Christian TV record "I'm In Love". Official iTunes release on May 10th. Definitely sounds like a summer hit.
The Boys are back. New album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 drops next Tuesday, May 3. You can stream the whole thing on their site here, including the lead single "Make Some Noise".
Mobroder (pronounced "Mo-b-roader") is a new project from Spank Rock, Blu Jemz, and my dude DJ HOFF which was inspired by their love of early 80's Italian electro.
Check out the video for "Rush" over on the Complex blog and the preview clip below featuring an all-star cast including Amanda Blank, Maluca, Hussle Club, Da Hardy Boys, Gumshoe, Eli Escobar, Posso, and Roxy Cottontail.
Not only is my good friend Nate Mezmer one of the masterminds behind San Francisco's major event production company EyeHeart SF, he's also a skilled MC. Evidence... the brand new, very smooth "World's Too Big" and his flip of Weezy's lights out "6 Foot 7 Foot". "I rise to the top when I rock... Ivan Drago."
In the spirit of yuletide cheer, the homie Ashkon just released the video for his new track "Snowglobe." Such a dope track and the video turned out amazing. Well done my man!
The only version of this new Wolfgang Gartner banger currently available online is a preview, but so it goes. The preview version is long enough to play out, however, especially now that I added a DJ intro. What really sold me on this is when the MC (who sounds like will.i.am) shouts out DJ AM in the second verse - even calls for a moment of silence for him. This will be big.
I love the fact that one of my favorite hip hop producers - Swizz Beatz - has a special affinity for French electronic rockers JUSTICE. First he used a JUSTICE track for HOV's "On to the Next One"; now he flips another for the lead single off Gucci Mane's The Appeal out this fall. Straight banger.
There's always a good amount of Kid Cudi material floating around the interwebs, but this new cut really jumped out at me. Presumably off Man On The Moon II coming out this fall...
I first met Jin and Jordan of Bay Area group Johnny Fresh back in March when we were randomly thrown on the bill together at a club in San Francisco one Saturday night. They gave me a demo of some of their stuff after the show and I really liked what I heard. It's always cool to meet not only super talented but super nice people in the entertainment industry.
They just released their first official single - Fallen 4 U - on iTunes today through Island Def Jam, and the track's already got a huge fan base.
First official single from Nipsey Hussle, featuring Lloyd on the hook. His debut album South Central State of Mind set to drop later this year. Love Hussle's flow on this over the electro beat.
First off, thank you to everyone who blasted through 330 Ritch in SF on Saturday for Saturday Night Live. Party was bananas!
Monday. New music time. Another gem courtesy of my boy Thunder Ruiz. I heard my fam at LIVE 105 drop this on Saturday afternoon, and it got me all fired up for SNL. The Dead Weather is Jack White's new project and this their first single is RAW... In my head, I'm already throwing a Mobb Deep accapella on it.
