Straight outta Paris...my man Don Rimini. Dude is rapidly emerging as one of my favorite DJ's out there. (In case you missed it, he provided one of the Young MC remixes below.)
Here Mr. Rimini provides us with a very special Christmas mix he did exclusively for Playboy ...something I'll be spinning well into 2009 as well. Here's the rundown:
"Parisian DJ, remixer and producer Don Rimini is known for his ability to cross the jackhammer utility of electro-house and the funk and swagger of hip-hop. Think of it as crunk on speed. Or just credit Baltimore. Huh? That’s right: The hottest DJ in Paris is a devotee of the ghetto-tech Baltimore sound.
In addition to his sweat-inducing deejaying, Don Rimini’s own tracks have also caught on in the DJ world, becoming regulars in the sets of Digitalism, A-Trak, MSTRKRFT, 2 Many DJs, Diplo and Ed Banger label founder Busy P. (Check out Rimini’s recent Kick‘n’Run EP for a taste.) And no wonder. His stuff is ace. Just wait until you hear the way this mix segues from hipster electro of Guns’n’Bombs to the old-school chant-along of 2 Live Crew’s “We Want Some Pussy” and you’ll get the Don’s aesthetic.
“This mix tells a story,” Rimini says of the mix he put together for Playboy. “A love story, of course.” He’s not kidding; he really did have a narrative arc in mind as he spun this mix. The story begins as “a French-style pimp arrives at the club,” he explains, where he quickly realizes this is not just another night out. Soon enough he’s pulled a girl and they consummate their carnal attraction—again, French-style, he says, naturellement—as Shena’s “Electrosexual” throbs on the dance floor. The night is just beginning, however, as tracks like “Ecstasy (Take Your Shirts Off)” make clear. And there’s a happy ending, too. The girl will forever have fond memories of her crazy night with a “Sexy Boy.”
And by the way, though he says any resemblance of the characters in the above story to real people is purely coincidental, Don Rimini mixed this live in a studio where he had assembled a party of his own, complete with undulating, undressed women to set the proper mood. Draw your own conclusions. But one thing’s clear: This is the real deal—a surefire stocking stuffer, if you will."

Justice & Soulwax
I wrote about Justice and Soulwax back in October.
I went to Amoeba Records in SF over the weekend, picked these up, and knew that Christmas shopping for myself was complete.
Here's just a taste...
Justice - Final (Metallica)
Soulwax - Move My Body (Live at Fabric)
I'd advise you to do the same...

The Knux...and Leaders of the New Cool
What's up with all these hipster hop duos? Dudes like The Cool Kids, Kidz in the Hall, and The Knux. Dudes are making hip hop fun again, and I'm feeling the creativity...as in this latter case, where Rah and Krispy rock Chuck Taylors and electric guitars in their "Bang! Bang!" video. I kept waiting to see Danny Zuko and Kenickie round the corner.

Claire Hux
Baltimore duo Claire Hux are "glam-minded party rockers who've been blowing roofs off venues lately with their weird and highly enjoyable take on Bmore club. Stuffing their tracks with gratuitous bass blasts, Prince melodies, gun shot samples, sirens, raunchy dancefloor commands, and enough high-energy breaks to move even the most sedentary of club goers, these kids are killing it if only for making a genre that we've seen appropriated by pretty much everyone in the game become entirely new and fun on its own again." (from RCRDLBL.com)
They even have the stamp of Bmore legend DJ Scottie B, who signed them to his Unruly Records label and mixed their new mixtape Jammin On The One.
I'm damn excited to post these...
Claire Hux - Down on the Floor
Claire Hux - Get Flossy

New Orleans BOUNCE
I'm driving around SF yesterday listening to my man Scotty Fox spin the slaps on KMEL, and dude drops a Sissy Nobby joint! Push them boundaries Scotty, push em!!!
Nobby and Katey Red are two of the pioneers of the sissy rap genre, a New Orleans phenomena that rose up in the late 90's trademarked by ridiculous ass-shaking beats.
Grab these two joints, then make sure you grab Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Dre Skull's "Sissy Bounce" mix done exclusively for XLR8R magazine...

Cornelius
If one was to look in the dictionary under the word "banger" you might just find a link to this song. This is the kind of thing that flat out destroys dance floors, assuming that said dance floor is populated by belligerently drunk hipster ravers. Banger, indeed. Thank you gentlemen.
